Foreword by Trevor Knapp:
Sean Boice is an independent documentary and event photographer inspired by themes of freedom, individualism, social unrest, economics, and tongue-in-cheek patriotism.
I’ve known Sean since highschool, and we’ve both shared a love for counter culture, strange art and conspiracies. Naturally, I felt like he would be the perfect artist to feature in this first issue of Mesmer.
Sean sent over a collection of photos that he felt would best represent the current times, and I could not agree more. Protests, people gathering together, big banks towering above wreckages, pollution, abandoned buildings, chaos and flames in the air - true to the zeitgeist.
I would speak more to the work shown, as these photos are breathtaking and have haunted me throughout the creation of Mesmer, but I would prefer you to see for yourselves. Enjoy.
As for Sean’s history as an artist:
Sean began his journey in documentary photography in Highschool during the 2008 Elections with a Pentax K1000 film camera and a press pass from the local democratic party; photographing then Presidential candidate Barack Obama's visit to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Since 2008, Sean has went on to document various protests, elections, political events and social unrest.
When not photographic politics, Sean can be found taking portraits of strangers and photographing nightlife, outdoor sports, performance artists, farmer's markets, and fashion in or outside the studio.
